What Will I Learn?
Ever wondered how Google judges your content?
There are three core pillars that Google uses to evaluate content quality:
- Human Search Quality Rater Guidelines: A 180-page document that sets the benchmark used by Google’s quality raters to evaluate content which was last updated Jan 23rd 2025.
- E-E-A-T: Does your content demonstrate Expertise, Experience, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness.
- YMYL: Your Money or Your Life guidelines are used to evaluate sensitive content.
These standards directly impact your search rankings and the trust that users have in your content.
To say it another way…
Google builds their entire algorithm around these guidelines. The better you follow the guidelines, the higher you will rank.
So, what makes the Google Search Quality Rater Tool different?
The tool takes Google’s human rater guidelines and uses Claude’s (free) advanced AI models to check how your content stacks up.
It does this by-
The best part?
Once it’s set up, you can upload any piece of content you’ve written and get an extremely detailed analysis.
This includes seeing precisely what needs to be changed to bring any content up to the standard Google expects.
Ready to take advantage of it? Let me show you how to set it up.
First you will need to download the project files from here
Then, there are two versions of the tool:
What’s the difference?
Pro Claude users get access to the Projects feature within Claude.
This means you can set up a project once and continuously use the tool to audit as many pieces of content as you want.
For free users, Claude’s analysis will also be more limited compared to Pro users because it won’t be able to process the full 180 page search quality rater guidelines document.
If you are serious about increasing your search traffic, the $18 Pro subscription to Claude is the way to go and is WAY better than ChatGPT which costs $200/month.
Either way, I am going to show you how to set it up for free with Claude Free and then Claude Pro below.
The free version of Claude allows you to analyse content using the Google Search Quality Rater guidelines.
What would usually take hours, now is done in seconds.
Here’s how to use it:
First download the free project files and head over to Claude.ai and create a free account.
If you already have one, you should be good to go.
Now, you will need to download the key files to create the tool in Claude.
Upload these two files that you should have just received by email:
Copy the content you want to analyse from your site and paste it directly into Claude. It should appear like this:
Depending on your content length, it will either be posted in as plain text in the chat or Claude will convert it to a txt file.
Click the orange arrow (or hit “Return” on your keyboard), and that’s it!
Claude will now run an in-depth analysis of your content and compare it to the Search Quality Rater Guidelines.
You’ll also get an analysis of YMYL and E-E-A-T.
Read through the entire report Claude generates and reply ‘YES’ to get actionable recommendations.
Implement what makes sense.
Setting up the project in Claude Pro enables you to get an even better analysis of your content and start auditing your content at scale.
It also removes many of the usage shackles compared to the free account and don’t forget to watch this video if you get stuck.
Here’s how to set it up:
First download the project files and then make sure that you are signed up for Claude Pro.
On the left, click “Projects”, then click “Create Project”.
Add the following details:
Click “Create Project”.
Now, it’s time to add all of the files and instructions. Make sure you’ve downloaded all of the tools files here.
On the right side, under “Project Knowledge”, click “Set project instructions”.
Paste in the “Project Instructions” from the Google Doc.
Click “Save Instructions”.
This is like a giga-prompt that will instruct the AI on what it needs to do.
It’s the basis for creating an incredibly powerful content auditor that’s designed to mimic what Google’s algorithm and human evaluators want to see.
Next, click “Add Content” and then upload these two files:
Now that the Project is all setup, the next step is to simply copy and paste your content into the chat area.
If you are struggling to copy and paste the content from your site, enter the URL into this tool, and it will extract the text content.
Hit “Enter” or click the little orange arrow button.
Claude will now ask you:
“Would you like me to expand on all these areas with actionable examples?”
It’s very important that you Reply “Yes”.
Because this is where the magic happens…
Your new powerful AI Search Quality Rater Tool will audit your content and provide very specific recommendations on what needs to be changed to improve your content.
The recommendations aren’t generic.
The tool is evaluating your content based on Google’s own guidelines.
This level of analysis is almost impossible for a human to do and will save you hundreds of hours.
The best part?
Once the project is setup…
…you can just paste in content into your project and click.
No more importing multiple locally stored files.
What’s happening under the hood of the report that Claude produces?
Let me explain:
The prompts and instructions turn Claude into a Search Quality Rater pro, designed to catch even the smallest details.
The AI goes through a 3-step process to evaluate your content:
YMYL stands for you Your Money or Your Life.
The YMYL guidelines are used by Google to scrutinise content written on sensitive topics like finance, health, safety or overall well-being.
Any piece of content that is classified as YMYL has to prove to Google that it’s accurate and authoritative. Otherwise, it simply won’t rank.
The tool does an initial check to see if your content falls into the YMYL category.
If it does, a YMYL analysis is included in the report. It then gives you a grade and explains how well your content demonstrates the expertise required to write YMYL content.
And it gives you specific advice on how to do that like this:
It doesn’t get much easier than that!
Next, your content is evaluated for E-E-A-T:
The tool evaluates the depth, quality and accuracy of your content.
It also assesses you as the author and whether or not you’re qualified to write on the topic.
Demonstrating strong E-E-A-T is essential for ranking any piece of content in Google’s organic search results.
And the tool will tell you exactly what that means in the real world with specific recommendations:
This makes it easy to add relevant E-E-A-T signals to your content based on Googles own guidelines.
Lastly, the tool uses the Human Quality Rater Guidelines to assess where your content succeeds and where it falls short.
This is a 180-page document used by Google’s real human quality raters to evaluate content.
We know from the Google algorithm leak that Human Quality Raters may significantly impact Google’s algorithm. Essentially, their opinions and feedback may affect the data sets used to train the algorithm.
That’s why this document is considered the gold standard of content.
Now that you’ve analysed your content, you should have the full report in front of you.
Let me show them how to use it to improve your content…
This is the initial top-level overview of your content.
Think of it like your quality scorecard highlighting content gaps, inaccuracies, or non-compliance areas.
The tool provides a-
- Overall content score (out of 100)
- Quality assessment
- Whether it’s YMYL content
- If E-E-A-T is demonstrated
- Major red flags that need to be addressed
The best thing is the Google Search Quality Rater Tool points out any major issues right up front so you know what needs to be addressed.
This is where things get interesting…
The Google Search Quality Rater Tool has a detailed evaluation component of the report to get into specific issues that need fixing.
It’s broken down into four sections:
From here, the tool will create a list of key recommendations based on these sections.
The recommendations show you exactly what needs to be changed and give examples of what the changes should look like.
No guessing. No trial and error.
You just need to follow the recommendations.
The recommendations alone are enough to ensure your content is at the highest level possible…But why stop there?
The improvement checklist is your road map to fix your piece of content step by step.
The tool will-
- List everything that needs to be fixed
- Prioritise what to fix first
- Gives specific improvement steps
- Shows exactly what to add/change
Think of this as your practical to-do list. All you have to do is implement the changes according to what the report says.
And these aren’t generic recommendations either…
They are customised specifically for your content , pointing out exactly what needs to be fixed.
The Google Search Quality Rater Tool takes all of Google’s complex guidelines and puts them into customised, actionable steps you can follow to improve your content and rankings.
All you need to do is implement what the report says.
It doesn’t get much easier than that!
When I first developed the AI Google Search Quality Rater Tool, I tested different AI models against each other to see what was best.
The biggest showdown was between Claude and ChatGPT…
I tested the same piece of content in both ChatGPT and Claude.
The results were eye-opening.
ChatGPT:
Claude essentially said the opposite…
Claude:
The truth is that the content was a guest post about legal advice, clearly written by someone with zero legal experience or credentials.
Claude immediately identified that thin content and flagged it as problematic.
This is why we use Claude.
It actually understands Google’s guidelines and holds content to the same standards as human quality raters (if not even higher).
The bottom line is that Claude’s AI models are more advanced and provide accurate insights that ChatGPT couldn’t compete with.
Let me show you some more examples of Claude in action…
Want to see some examples of the Google Search Quality Rater Tool in action?
I took three different types of content and ran them through the tool.
First up is this article about stress management from HelpGuide.org.
It currently ranks 9th for the keyword “how to manage stress”.
Here’s what the audit showed:
This is a perfect example of health content done right.
The article scored an impressive 94/100 for in the E-E-A-T Assessment and passed most of the YMYL checks with flying colours.
Here’s why it scored so well:
And more!
The keyword is extremely difficult to rank for, and the tool did identify some key areas for improvement.
But here’s the main takeaway…
Even a good piece of content can be improved. For competitive keywords, the small details often make the difference.
The Google Search Quality Rater Tool runs an extremely comprehensive analysis and identifies things humans often overlook.
The tool will give you an edge if you’re in a competitive niche.
It doesn’t get any more “YMLY” than Finance. Financial content is one of the most scrutinised topics by Google.
I ran Dave Ramsey’s “Financial Peace” product page through the tool to see how it stacks up.
This is the result:
The page scored 85/100 overall – which is actually pretty high for YMYL content.
But the tool spotted some interesting issues:
What’s really interesting is how the marketing tone sometimes overshadowed the educational content – a big red flag for Google when it comes to financial advice.
The recommendations were also spot on.
Dave Ramsey is a big name in the finance industry, so this is the kind of detailed analysis that you would expect when evaluating this kind of page for YMYL content.
What about a low-quality post then?
I found this article, which is almost definitely a guest post.
How did it score for the AI Search Quality Rater Tool?
Short answer – Not great.
The post scored a terrible 52/100 and failed multiple quality rater principles:
The list goes on and on. This is exactly the type of content that Google’s human quality raters (and algorithm) are designed to flag.
The funny thing is the recommendations essentially requested a complete overhaul of the content.
The tool perfectly picked up the low-quality content and explained why it scored so badly.

Thanks, you’ve created a very valuable guide for analysing content quality, it’s great. I did it again thanks to you in the free account of Claude Ai. Claude rated my article with 85 points but suggested a big list of corrections to improve the quality of the article. Hopefully now I can analyse most of my content that needs improvement. Thank you again
Glad you find the tool helpful!
I have been looking for a way to produce content with AI for months; I need something that passes AI pattern checks from Grammarly. I will test it; thank you!
I would love to hear about the test’s results!
